Physical Resource Block

The term PRB (Physical Resource Block) exists in both 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) and 5G NR (New Radio) air interfaces. The LTE PRB (Physical Resource Block) is made up of 12 consecutive subcarriers for a duration of one slot (0.5 ms). In contrast, the 5G NR PRB only defines the frequency domain, i.e. 1 PRB = 12 subcarriers, with the spacing between the subcarriers based on the Numerology.

Note that in LTE NB-IoT solutions the resource allocation can be less than a PRB, i.e. down to groups of subcarriers and symbols.
