What is included in our 5G Core courses?

If you purchase an on-demand 5G Core course, you will receive full access to the videos associated with that course, as well as a test of understanding, a detailed reference document and a 5G Core certification on completion. Learners will also benefit from access to our ‘Ask the Trainer’ feature and receive 1 month of free access to our acclaimed network visualisation tool, NetX.*

*NetX is not included with the Mini Telecoms MBA course or partner training.

How long do I have access to 5G Core course content?

As soon as you purchase your chosen 5G Core course, you will have immediate access to the on-demand content. Each course has an access period ranging from 3 to 12 months, during which you’ll have unlimited access to the videos associated with your course. You can also download the course reference document to keep indefinitely to help with long-term retention of what you have learned.

Can your 5G Core courses be delivered live, either online or onsite?

Yes, all our 5G Core courses, as well as our full catalogue of 5G courses, can be delivered live if this works best for your team. For live training, we typically require teams or enterprises of 10 or more learners. Do I need prior 5G knowledge to take 5G Core training?

Yes, for our intermediate and advanced 5G core training courses, learners will need foundational knowledge of 5G networks. We recommend that learners without a good working knowledge of 5G architecture first take our beginner course, ‘An Introduction to 5G’. This will provide learners with an overview of the 5G Core, including details on cloud native networks, network slicing and edge computing.

What is the difference between 5G Core and 4G EPC?

The key difference is that the 4G Evolved Packet Core (EPC) uses a node-based architecture, while the 5G Core uses a more flexible, cloud-native Service-Based Architecture.

Here is a summary of some of the other major differences between 4G EPC and 5G Core:

  • Network functions: 4G uses nodes such as MME, SGW, PGW and HSS; 5G introduces Network Functions (NFs), including AMF, SMF, UPF, UDM and PCF.
  • Control and user plane: 5G provides greater separation between the control plane and user plane, allowing more flexible deployment.
  • Interfaces: 4G primarily relies on point-to-point interfaces, while 5G Core uses service-based APIs between network functions.
  • Network slicing: 5G Core natively supports network slicing, allowing networks to be logically divided for different services and requirements.
  • Latency: 5G Core supports lower-latency services through technologies such as distributed User Plane Functions (UPFs) and edge computing.
  • Use cases: 4G EPC primarily supports mobile broadband and services such as VoLTE, while 5G Core is designed for enhanced mobile broadband, IoT, private networks and ultra-low-latency applications.

What is Service-Based Architecture (SBA) in 5G Core?

Service-Based Architecture (SBA) enables 5G Core network functions to communicate through service-based interfaces and APIs, typically using HTTP/2.

 

Does 5G Core training cover 5G Standalone (5G SA)?

Yes, 5G Core training commonly covers the architecture and technologies used in 5G Standalone (SA) networks. However, the depth of coverage will depend on the individual course. This is because 5G SA uses the 5G Core rather than relying on 4G architecture. Understanding the 5G Core is a key part of mastering 5G Standalone operations.
