RPR – Resilient Packet Ring

RPR (Resilient Packet Ring) is a network technology which was designed to meet the requirements of a packet based MAN (Metropolitan Area Network). Since neither SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) or Ethernet is ideal for handling multimedia traffic on a ring network, the RPR (IEEE 802.17) specification identifies a new MAC which addresses bottleneck issues.
