DAMPS Digital Advanced Mobile Phone Service
With the initiative to increase the capacity and quality of AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone Service) some of the AMPS channels were digitized in the DAMPS system. The broadcast channels remained analogue were shared between AMPS and DAMPS. Consequently the DAMPS handsets needed to operate in dual mode. DAMPS operates in the 900MHz area of the spectrum.
