Central training unifies diverse talent at DISH

DISH Case Study

Summary

DISH overcame diverse talent challenges with Mpirical’s adaptable training, unifying engineers across backgrounds, enhancing skills, and fostering a continuous learning culture.

The challenge

DISH’s unique approach to innovation is underscored by its adaptable and skilled engineers who hail from various backgrounds and areas of expertise. With this diversity came a need to create a unified approach to learning as well as a solution that would fill skill gaps and provide essential training for their RF teams to aid in the efficient deployment of 5G-related projects across 37 different markets.

The solution

Recognising the need for training that would be as adaptable as their engineers, DISH leveraged Mpirical’s on-demand courses which cater to a wide range of skill levels and cover over 100 different technology subjects, all accessible through a single learning management system. This flexibility allowed DISH teams to access learning seamlessly, whether on the go, during work for project support, or as an overview of specific technologies.

DISH engineers also discovered versatile applications for Mpirical that met the demands of their extensive portfolio of client projects.

While on-site engineers used it to grasp the architecture of 5G networks, others used it to supplement their knowledge alongside DISH product training; and advanced RF engineers were able to break down silos through comprehensive training that complemented other skill areas, such as AWS and cloud technologies.

Beyond skills enhancement, Mpirical training also played a crucial role in elevating confidence levels, empowering their engineers to interact more proficiently with clients on wireless infrastructure projects.

The Bigger Picture

The rollout of Mpirical training helped to support DISH’s culture of continuous learning and development. Serving as a litmus test for future programs, the success of this initiative highlighted the significance of fostering a culture where employees can take control of their learning journey and seek out opportunities for self-improvement.

Witnessing the success of this and other training programmes, Jeff Eppard, Wireless Training Manager at DISH, emphasised the culture of encouragement, stating, "at DISH, our greatest benefit is opportunity."
