Written collectively by the female voices of Mpirical…

As individuals immersed in this dynamic field, we strive to empower ourselves and industry colleagues through education and professional development, knowing that our contributions play a vital role in building a diverse and inclusive tech workforce. Join us as we celebrate International Women’s Day, reflecting on the progress made and the journey ahead in shaping a more equitable future for all.

How do we make sure International Women’s Day leads to real change for women in tech, rather than just being a symbolic event?

As Mpirical’s Learning Engagement Manager, I work with thousands of women across 180 countries and love to hear the feedback, wins, and challenges they overcome and overcome they do! I help women set their goals and targets and accessing them along the way is very much needed to combat and accomplish everything they desire.

Ensuring this important day is recognised is a pivotal part of the journey. As peers set yearly objectives for the company, maybe on this day, the women in the company could get together and set their own goals? Learning a new course or starting a learning accountability group? As the months roll by, keeping check of these goals and helping each other will ensure within 12 months, until, the next International Women’s Day, much progress will have been made and the ladies will be absolutely winning in every way possible.

Why is it important to celebrate the diversity of women in technology, and how can we ensure everyone feels included?

It’s crucial to honour not just the incredible diversity within women, but the richness of diversity among all individuals. International Women’s Day serves as a poignant reminder of the countless women who have passionately fought for progress throughout history.

We can amplify our voices, sharing our personal experiences and triumphs, hoping that it will encourage others to raise their voices and champion ongoing progress. Our goal is not merely gender equality, but equality in general.

How can the tech industry better support women, not just on International Women’s Day, but all year round?

I’m really encouraged to see more and more women joining our engineering training. Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a big increase in female representation in tech, which is awesome.

It’s not just about one day like International Women’s Day; it’s about supporting women in tech all year round. We need to make sure young girls have role models who show them that they can succeed in tech too. Social media is a great outlet to make this possible. By doing something as simple as liking and sharing stories of empowering women in this field, we can influence the narrative around what girls perceive as aspirational.

We should also invest in programs that make STEM fields welcoming to everyone. That means giving all young people the chance to learn about these careers, no matter who they are.

What challenges do you feel women still face in the tech industry today?

As a woman embedded in the tech industry for over 10 years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the ongoing challenges we face. Despite progress, gender biases persist, affecting opportunities for advancement and recognition. In the realm of wireless technology, where I engage with professionals globally, I often find myself navigating through male-dominated spaces. Breaking stereotypes and gaining credibility can be an uphill battle. Additionally, balancing career demands with familial responsibilities remains a struggle for many women. However, with determination and support, we’re gradually reshaping the landscape, fostering inclusivity, and inspiring future generations of female engineers.

How can mentorship play a crucial role in helping women succeed in tech?

Mentorship is pivotal in empowering women in the field, especially as we continue to evolve to break our perceptions of gender stereotypes within the technology industry. It can provide guidance and networking opportunities. Mentors can help women navigate the unique challenges they may face and offer advice/encouragement to build their confidence in pursuing advancement. In addition, mentors can also serve as advocates, creating a more inclusive environment for women in the industry.

As a company focused on tech workforce education, how can we promote greater participation of women in this often male-dominated field?

Having journeyed through the fast-paced world of wireless tech education, I’ve seen firsthand the need for more female voices in the mix. To promote greater participation of women in this field, we need to start with education and representation. Offering targeted programs that highlight the achievements of women in wireless tech can inspire others to pursue careers in this domain. Additionally, creating inclusive environments where women feel supported and valued is crucial. Mentorship, networking, and diverse hiring practices are vital. By tackling biases and offering skill-building opportunities, we can empower more women to fulfil their career goals, whether that’s in the tech sector or anywhere!
