‘Time is money’ as the saying goes… and when it comes to investing in training for your teams, we couldn’t agree more.
In a world where time is such a precious commodity, we sometimes struggle to justify how much of it we spend on training and personal development when so many other projects demand our attention. Moreover, weighing up the cost versus benefit of investment in a training program can prove challenging for any organization.
This last year, we set out to understand just how our students are spending their time training in our LearningZone. Using insights spanning our global network of clients, we identified a key trend in Mpirical learner engagement that we’ve coined ‘content dipping’: a pattern of behaviour by which students ‘dip’ in and out of multiple learning resources in our platform for quick blasts of information to support on-the-job tasks.
Looking at wider trends in learning and development, it’s no surprise to see this pattern occur within our Mpirical student groups. Learners want to access quick, easy to digest content when they need it. And within our student base, this includes using the LearningZone as a reference tool, e.g., watching a snippet of a course to understand more about a particular technology, looking up a term in our glossary or analysing a function in NetX.
We found this method is not only beneficial for the student, but is also a more cost-effective solution for our clients overall. In many cases, the teams who used the platform as a regular daily or weekly reference source – AKA the ‘content dippers’, had a lower cost per learning hour when compared to the teams who completed more individual courses. What’s more, 64 percent of our students reported saving at least two hours each week on the job through access to Mpirical training.
With these insights in mind, we’re rolling out some big changes to the LearningZone in 2022. Focused learning paths for role-specific training, enhanced navigation, and microlearning videos are just a few of the features that will launch in January. Through continued development of the LearningZone, we hope to maximise the benefits of our subscription services by further enabling our students in their learning journey and ultimately, save them precious time by providing the right resources when they need them most.
