Divided into 4 sections, the topics covered will include:
Section 1: IP Basics (1.5 hours)
- OSI 7 Layer Model and TCP / IP Model.
- Transport Layer Protocols - UDP, TCP, SCTP.
- IP and the Network Layer - IP Addressing, DHCP, CIDR.
- Data Link Layer Technologies - Ethernet, Wi-Fi, IEEE 802 Working Groups.
- Physical Layer Technologies.
Section 2: IP Transport Networks (1.5 hours)
- Driving Factors for Migration to IP.
- Routing at Layer 3 - Router Architecture, Routing Tables, Lookup and Forwarding.
- Indirect and Direct Routing Procedures.
- Routing Protocols - IGP, OSPF, EGP, BGP-4.
- Packet Transport Architectures - Carrier Ethernet.
Section 3: Introduction to MPLS (1.5 hours)
- MPLS Network Architecture and Features - Scalability, Flexibility, Performance, Simplification.
- MPLS Network Elements - LSR, LER.
- MPLS Data Forwarding Plane - FEC to Label Binding, ILM, FTN, NHLFE.
- LSP Establishment Options.
- Advantages of MPLS Transport Networks - FRR, Traffic Engineering, L2 / L3 VPN.
Section 4: IP in Next Generation Networks (1.5 hours)
- IPRAN Architecture - Options for IPRAN Migration Scenarios (PWE3, MSPP, Ethernet Node B etc).
- Core Network Soft Switching Architecture - MSC-S and MGW, SIP and BICC, RTP, H.248.
- Sigtran - SCTP and User Adaptation.
IP based transport network are being deployed extensively across telecommunications service provider networks, with circuit switched technology being replaced in favour of the cost savings IP can potentially offer. This course seeks to demystify the IP networking environment, explaining the key terms and technologies being used in the Next Generation of telecommunications networks.
