SDP (Session Description Protocol) had a number of shortfalls in meeting the of requirements that have come about with its use within SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and MEGACO. This has resulted in numerous work arounds, sometimes heavily bending SDP syntax and semantics. To overcome this, a new version of SDP known as SDPng (SDP Next Generation) is being developed by the MMUSIC (Multi Media Session Control working group. It should be noted however, that at the time of writing, it has not yet been agreed if this draft will eventually obsolete the current SDP specifications.
