Third Generation is the term given to the next generation of mobile communication systems. These offer enhanced services, such as multimedia and video. The main 3G technologies include UMTS and CDMA2000®. 3G was an initiative originally spearheaded by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) under the IMT2000 project.
