OFDM is a multi carrier transmission technique capable of supporting high speed services whilst still being bandwidth efficient. It achieves this by “forcing” multiple sub-carriers together thereby reducing the bandwidth required when compared to more traditional FDM (Frequency Division Multiplexing) methods. However, to ensure these adjacent sub-carriers do not cause excessive interference, they must be “orthogonal” or 90° to one another.
