3G is the term given to the next generation of mobile communication systems. These offer enhanced services, such as multimedia and video. The main 3G technologies include UMTS and CDMA2000®. 3G was an initiative originally spearheaded by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) under the IMT2000 project.
