Mobile IP (v4 and v6) - 3 hours
While there are many potential solutions to support mobility between networks and network technologies, most work is currently being focused in layer three, in the form of mobile IP. This module explores how IP mobility may be achieved in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. In terms of IPv4 the various agents, signalling and procedures are explored to define how a mobile node may move seamlessly between networks. IPv6, on the other hand, has been designed to offer significant mobility functionality in its own right. These features are discussed along with Mobile IPv6 operation. Finally this module compares and contrasts the methods employed in these architectures as well as network issues such as security that must be considered if mobility is to be successfully introduced. |
