MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) - 2 hours
The ever increasing requirement for higher data rates and improved QoS across wireless links has generated the need to improve the spectral efficiency and reliability of radio communication. One way to achieve this is through the use of multiple antennas at each end of the transmission link. This technique is known as MIMO. This module provides a supplement to the UMTS Air Interface tutorial and describes how MIMO in concert with other techniques, such as HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), may be used to significantly increase user data rates. It discusses the drawbacks involved with time and frequency diversity and then focuses on the merits and improvements that can be leveraged from special diversity and the gains that can be achieved by harnessing the multipaths effect of radio transmission. |
