Sigtran Explained (3 hours)Forming part of mpirical’s acclaimed “Explained” series, this 3 hour eSeminar introduces Sigtran. The drivers for the development of Sigtran are discussed, in addition to the aims set out by the IETF to support the key requirements of signalling transport within an IP network. Through this discussion, the Sigtran architecture is introduced as well as the key features and operation of SCTP and the principle “User Adaptation” layers. Who Should AttendSignalling Engineers and Telecoms Staff involved in the deployment and development of NGN functions. Sales and Technical Pre-Sales Staff who deal with Sigtran as part of their portfolio. SynopsisDivided into 3 sections, the topics covered will include: Section 1: Signalling in the NGN (1 hour)Part of IP Convergence has been the migration of signalling onto IP networks. Much of this work has been coordinated by the IETF through the Sigtran Working Group. This section explores the requirements of Sigtran, as well as key functions within the NGN required to support signalling using Sigtran, such as the SIG and Soft Switch.
Section 2: Reliable Delivery - SCTP Operation (1 hour)While TCP has provided the backbone of connection orientated reliable delivery of data across the Internet for many years, it has not proved effective at carrying circuit and non circuit related signalling. This section discusses its drawbacks and describes the features of SCTP that have been designed to overcome these shortcomings.
Section 3: User Adaptation M3UA / M2UA and M2PA (1 hour)Redeveloping many of the SS7 protocols for use over IP was impractical. For this reason “User Adaptation” layers where developed. This section describes the key requirements of the “User Adaptation” layer as well as detailing the operation of the principle adaptation layers in operation today.
