LTE Explained (3 hours)Forming part of mpirical’s acclaimed “Explained” series, this 3 hour eSeminar introduces LTE. The road to LTE is taken by exploring the early initiatives set out by the ITU and 3GPP, showing how these have crystallized through advances to the packet services offered by HSPA. From here the main elements of the LTE network including the Air Interface, E-UTRAN and EPC are defined, as well as LTE operation and mobility and how LTE fits within the SAE concept. Who Should AttendTelecoms Professionals currently involved in the development and deployment of 3GPP mobile broadband technologies who need an overview of future developments in this field. SynopsisDivided into 3 sections, the topics covered will include: Section 1: Network Evolution the 3GPP Approach (1 hour)UMTS and the concept of 3G was first outlined in the mid 1990’s with responsibility for development falling to the 3GPP. This section charts the development of UMTS by examining HSDPA, HSUPA and HSPA+ and how LTE “fits” into the 3GPP roadmap. Coupled with this is a brief overview of NGN access technologies including WiMAX and UMB.
Section 2: Air Interface and network Building Blocks (1 hour)LTE development is progressing hand in hand with the SAE initiative which aims to integrate LTE with 3GPP and non 3GPP access solutions. In this section the LTE OFDM / SCFDMA Air Interface is introduced as well as the building blocks that make up the E-UTRAN and EPC.
Section 3: LTE Operation and Interworking (1 hour)This section charts the procedures required to connect to IP services and maintain this connection through mobility and interworking. Areas explored include network selection and the LTE Attach, IP address allocation and bearer establishment. VoIP and Video service connections are also detailed.
