IP Soft Switching Explained (3 hours)Forming part of mpirical’s acclaimed “Explained” series, this 3 hour eSeminar introduces the fundamentals of IP Soft Switching. The eSeminar will include an architectural view of a Soft Switch deployment, showing how legacy telephony switches such as the Mobile Switching Centre are being replaced with this technology. In addition, the eSeminar will also detail the protocols used to support call establishment and also transport voice. Who Should AttendTechnical Support Staff requiring a concise account of where IP Soft Switches will be employed and how they will communicate. Telecoms Engineers involved in the deployment of a Soft Switch based core network. SynopsisDivided into 3 sections, the topics covered will include: Section 1: Soft Switching and NGN (1 hour)This initial section introduces the IP Soft Switch, detailing the functionality of the MGCF or MSC Server and the MGW, before positioning these entities within a 3GPP Release 4 distributed core network. In so doing, call signalling and voice transport protocols will be positioned, with content also provided on the importance of Sigtran within this architecture.
Section 2: Call Signalling and Soft Switches (1 hour)The 3GPP defined two signalling protocols for use between Soft Switches, namely Bearer Independent Call Control and Session Initiation Protocol. This section explains both of these protocols, in addition to highlighting the use of H.248 / MEGACO as a control protocol for MGWs. Signalling diagrams will be provided in support of these areas.
Section 3: Voice Transport (1 hour)Once a call is established using the protocols mentioned in the previous section, the voice content itself must be packetized and carried across the network. This concluding section looks at the role of the MGW and the use of Real Time Transport Protocol to carry voice traffic. In addition, QoS mechanisms for voice traffic will also be discussed.
