It then moves on to introduce the key components of the Femto Cell architecture before describing how Femto Cell networks operate and the techniques which can be adopted to improve network performance. (1 hour)This section explains what is meant by the term Femto Cell before relating it to similar technologies such as UMA or Dual Mode. The various benefits associated with a Femto Cell deployment are then critically analysed in terms of both the Service Provider and the Subscriber before discussing how such an approach may fit into the overall network strategy.
Section 2: Femto Cell Architecture (1 hour)After defining the HNB (Home Node B) and HNB-GW (Home Node B Gateway), this section introduces the Femto Cell architecture and relates it to the existing cellular network. The IP access network is then explored in detail before briefly discussing the requirement to support both network security and IP QoS.
Section 3: Femto Cell Operation (1 hour)The final section explores how both circuit and packet switched connections can be supported over a Femto Cell network, before addressing some of the techniques which can be used to optimize network performance. This includes discussion on cell reselection parameters and hierarchical cell structures, as well as exploring several of the proposed access control techniques.:
