CAMEL Explained (3 hours)

Forming part of mpirical’s acclaimed “Explained” series, this 3 hour eSeminar introduces CAMEL. This eSeminar identifies the key aspects of Intelligent Services and their deployment in a CAMEL based network. The CAMEL architecture is explored, with emphasis on Phase 2 and Phase 3 deployment. In addition, the eSeminar discusses various services, as such the procedures and interactions with the CAMEL functions are detailed.

Who Should Attend

Telecom Network engineers involved in deploying and maintaining CAMEL services. Telecoms Engineers requiring a detailed overview of CAMEL architecture, features and services.

Synopsis

Divided into 3 sections, the topics covered will include:

Section 1: CAMEL Network Architecture (1 hour)

This section describes the need for CAMEL in mobile networks, as well as how the Intelligent Network functionality is overlaid onto GSM, GPRS and UMTS networks. The phases of CAMEL are introduced, along with the architecture and interfaces required. Finally, the requirement for CSI is examined, along with the Basic Call State Models.

  • CAMEL features.
  • Network architecture - phased implementation.
  • CAMEL information - service capabilities.

Section 2: CAMEL Operation (1 hour)

This session analyzes the extra features included in the CAMEL Phase 2 and Phase 3 releases. In so doing, it details procedures and user interaction with the CAMEL service and especially the gsmSRF. In addition, typical services and their associated procedures are discussed, such as the enhanced charging features, as well as the different methods of providing pre-paid solutions and call control.

  • Phase 2 and Phase 3 operation.
  • User interaction - USSD and gsmSRF.
  • Pre-paid services.

Section 3: The Future of CAMEL (1 hour)

This final section examines the features of CAMEL Phase 4, such as optional support and call party handling. The section also discusses interworking with the IMS. In so doing, the main functional components and the role of SIP within the IMS are examined. Finally, the service interfaces linking the CSCF to the various service environments are described.

  • CAMEL Phase 4.
  • Future network requirements.
  • CAMEL IMS interworking.
