2G Radio Planning Explained (3 hours)Forming part of mpirical’s acclaimed “Explained” series, this 3 hour eSeminar introduces GSM / EGPRS radio planning. This eSeminar discusses the stages when planning a GSM / EGPRS network prior to defining the requirements of voice and data services. The process of dimensioning, link budget calculation, coverage planning and capacity planning are explored, along with issues of signalling, SMS and handovers. Who Should AttendMobile and Network Engineers requiring a technical appreciation of GSM / EGPRS radio planning. Project Managers and Technical Sales involved in the deployment of GSM / EGPRS systems. SynopsisDivided into 3 sections, the topics covered will include: Section 1: What is GSM / EGPRS Radio Planning (1 hour)This initial section outlines the need for GSM / EGPRS radio planning prior to defining the various stages involved in planning a mobile cellular network. As such, the section explores dimensioning, planning and optimization, as well as discussing the issues of different types of traffic, namely signalling, speech, SMS and EGPRS packet switched traffic.
Section 2: Coverage Planning (1hr)This section details the coverage planning process and the use of macro, micro, and pico cells. The section then goes on to utilize these in the system dimensioning process and the calculation of link budgets. This is followed by the calculation of the cell range, as well as the cell / site area. Throughout the section, planning tool screen shots are used to summarize the key guidelines and mapping information.
Section 3: Capacity Planning and Optimization (1 hour)The final section explores the issues of capacity planning, as well as future loading requirements. The various enhancements /features to improve capacity and coverage are also explored, and the simulation results shown.
