Wi-Fi in the Mobile (1 hour)Forming part of mpirical’s acclaimed “The Essential Guide to” series, this 1 hour eSeminar introduces the term Wi-Fi and explains how this universal technology has taken the world by storm. Wi-Fi has experienced global success, to the extent that many modern mobile handsets incorporate Wi-Fi technology as a matter of course. As such, after briefly outlining the key components of a Wi-Fi network, this eSeminar will detail the fundamental aspects of deploying Wi-Fi within the mobile device, detailing the work undertaken by the various IEEE working groups and addressing key issues such as interoperability and security. Who Should AttendBoth Technical and Non Technical staff requiring a concise understanding of the fundamental aspects of Wi-Fi technology and how it can be adopted and utilised within the mobile device. SynopsisDivided into 3 sections, the topics covered will include: Section 1: What is Wi-Fi? (20 minutes)The eSeminar begins by explaining what is meant by the term Wi-Fi prior to providing a market synopsis of the technology. The basic network components are then introduced before discussing the implications of operating a radio based network in unlicensed radio spectrum. The different IEEE 802.11 task groups are then introduced in terms of network performance.
Section 2: Wi-Fi and the Mobile (20 minutes)Wi-Fi is now found throughout the world in numerous guises, which is a key driver for the deployment of Wi-Fi within mobile devices. In this section, the different Wi-Fi configurations are discussed, including Ad hoc, LAN, Access Network and Mesh. This provides a platform to discuss the growing numbers of Wi-Fi Hotspots that are emerging in hotels, trains and aeroplanes etc in addition to the role of municipal Wi-Fi Mesh networks.
Section 3: Deployment Challenges (20 minutes)Deploying Wi-Fi technology within the mobile is not without its challenges, not least of which is deciding whether or not the mobile will be able to switch seamlessly between Wi-Fi and cellular, as in the case of UMA. Security is another key area of concern and has long been an area that carries a large amount of potentially unwarranted criticism. This final section will examine each of these areas and provide guidance on the key issues.
