What is 4G Going to Offer? (1 hour)

Forming part of mpirical’s acclaimed “The Essential Guide to” series, this 1 hour eSeminar discusses the impending deployment of 4G networks, providing a concise overview of the technologies supporting the move, as well as the services which will be offered as a result. As such, LTE and WiMAX will be examined before discussing service delivery via the IMS.

Who Should Attend

Sales and Marketing Staff requiring an appraisal of the solutions available for delivering 4G. Business Strategists considering how 4G will be reached and the potential benefits obtained as a result.

Synopsis

Divided into 3 sections, the topics covered will include:

Section 1: Long Term Evolution (20 minutes)

Ever since its introduction in Release 8 of the 3GPP standards, LTE has been the logical next step for many Mobile Service Providers investigating 4G technology. This section will explain the goals of LTE, defining the standards bodies striving to reach these goals and the network architecture which has been developed as a consequence.

  • LTE Driving Factors - key standards bodies, their goals and strategies.
  • Network Architecture - the E-UTRAN and EPC.
  • LTE Predicted Data Rates - including the tools and techniques used to achieve them.

Section 2: WiMAX (20 minutes)

The IEEE and WiMAX Forum believe WiMAX is a viable choice for Service Providers in their quest to reach 4G capability. This second section will follow the same format as the first, defining the key goals, network architecture and achievable data rates associated with 802.16e.

  • WiMAX Driving Factors - key standards bodies, their goals and strategies.
  • Network Architecture - the ASN and CSN.
  • WiMAX Predicted Data Rates - including the tools and techniques used to achieve them.

Section 3: Delivering Services to 4G Subscribers (20 minutes)

Although both WiMAX and LTE will offer impressive web browsing speeds, it is important to remember that all services across these networks will be transported using packet switching technology. This concluding section will explore this fact, discussing how voice and video services will be deployed within 4G, in addition to outlining how these services will be established and managed by the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem).

  • End to End Packet Based Services - Voice and Video over IP.
  • Seamless Service Delivery Using the IMS.
  • The 4G Killer Application.
