GSM Air Interface (1 days or 6 hours)Following on from the Engineering the Mobile Network course, this course focuses on the 2G radio interface and in so doing discusses in detail the physical layer, frame formats, protocols etc prior to explaining the mechanisms which are employed as a mobile enters the network and makes and receives calls and text messages. Finally, the course explains the cell selection and re-selection procedures in addition to describing the various types of handovers and interworking with UMTS.
